Research Activities at Present:

The department has conducted two phase II studies, four phase III studies and 9 phase IV studies. Ongoing projects currently are:

  •  
  • "A Randomized double blind, multicentric, parallel-group safety and efficacy study comparing Formoterol-HFA and Formoterol-CFC both delivered by pressurize metered dose inhaler pMDI in patients of Chronic Asthma" (Cipla).
  •  
  • "Comparison of the efficacy and safety of one inhalation of symbicort Turbuhaler 160/4.5 ug b.i.d. plus as-needed with two inhalations of seretide TM" (Astra Zeneca).
  •  
  • "An open-label study to evaluate the efficacy of four-drug FDC (SCC-4) a new once a day powder formulation containing Rifampicin-450mg, Isoniazid-225mg, Ethambutol-825mg & PZA-1200mg, for sputum conversion by daily administration during the intensive phase in new smear positive patients".

  • Study of amoxycillin with sulbactam versus amoxycillin in patients in COPD exacerbations

  • Role of enzyme Phlogenzyme in patients with pulmonary TB
  •  
  • Role of Cromolyn Sodium plus Salbutamol versus salbutamol in patients with mild asthma
  •  
  • Role of R Salbutamol in patients of bronchial asthma
  •  
  • Study of Ciclesonide a new inhaled steroid in comparison with budesonide in patients with mild to moderate asthma


    Publications:

  • Over 150 publications in various international national indexed journals, consisting of case reports, letter to editor, pictorial CME, original studies, and review articles.
  •  
  • Also, booklets on Sleep, PFT, Tuberculosis, and Asthma are being published.
  •  
  • Dr. J.M. Joshi has written chapter on "Atelectasis" for API 2002 and on "MDR tuberculosis" for API update.
  •  
  • A book written and edited by Dr. J.M. Joshi on Respiratory diseases is awaiting publication.


    Presentations:

  • Dr. J.M. Joshi, Prof. & Head has been giving lectures, organising CME and workshop on various topics throughout the year.
  •  
  • She specializes in conducting CME and workshops on sleep disordered breathing, spirometry, spirometry, multi drug resistance tuberculosis airway disorders, management of asthma and COPD, arterial blood gas analysis.
