    Achievements:

  • Department of Pathology received following prizes at the IAPM (Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists) annual conferences:
    - First prize for oral paper entitled "Significance of fluid cholesterol levels in differentiation of exudates from transudates" to Dr. Venkatesh Anchinmane our resident pathologist (IAPM chapter conference held at Mumbai in September 2004).
    - First prize for poster presentation entitled "Young adult silent renal cell carcinoma metastatic to cervical lymphnode" to Dr. Mayura Phulpagar, Lecturer in Pathology (IAPM National Conference held at Pune in November 2004).
    - Best poster presentation prize at Cytocon 2004.
    - Best paper prize for Clinical Pathology paper at MAPCON 2003.
    - Best Poster Prize - APCON 2003.
    - Prize for securing highest scores in IAPM Chapter conference for Histopathology slide diagnosis in 2000, 2001 & 2003.
    - Best poster prize - APCON 2000.

  • Many oral papers and posters were presented by our staff members and resident pathologist at the annual IAPM conference mentioned above.

  • Dr.Jaya Deshpande, Prof. & HOD Pathology participated as a faculty in:
    - Workshop on Congenital Heart Disease at G.S.Medical college, Mumbai in April 2004.
    - Paediatric Cardiology conference at Bangalore in August 2004.
    - Preconference CME on Cardiovascular lesions at G.S.Medical College, Mumbai in September, 2004.
    - Organised preconference workshop on Non neoplastic lung lesions at AFMC, Pune in November 2004.

  • Dr. Leena Naik and Dr. Kusum Jashnani, Assoc.Professors, had organised a two day CME on Gynaecologic Pathology in April 2004. This was part of mid year teaching programme of International Academy of Pathology - Indian Division (IAP-ID) where over 260 delegates from all over India had registered.

  • Dr. J.D. Rege and Dr. A.D. Amarapurkar, Associate Professors, participated as a faculty in preconference IAP-ID organised at AFMC, Pune in November 2004. Dr. J.D.Rege participated in seminar on splenic lesions. Dr. A.D. Amarapurkar participated in symposium on Tissue pathology in HIV and AIDS.

  • Dr. Vinaya Shah, Associate Professor had organised a Dr. Salaskar Memorial Preconference CME on " Safe Transfusion Services in Blood Banking" in September 2004.

  • Dr. Meenakshi Balsubramaniam and Dr. Vikas S. Kavishwar, Associate Professors, had participated as faculty in slide seminar on Paediatric pathology in preconference CME at LTM Medical College, Mumbai in September 2004.

  • Dr. Mayura Phulpagar and Dr. Gayathri Amonkar, Lecturers in Pathology had participated as faculty in preconference CMEs in Breast Pathology and Non neoplastic lung lesions respectively at AFMC, Pune in November, 2004.

  • Panel Discussion was organised as a part of Teaching Pathologists conference at T.N.Medical College in September 2004. Topic - "Medicolegal aspects of medical autopsies - Dilemmas and solutions.".

  • Department of Pathology, Neurology & Psychiatry - combined Project on Cognitive Disorders in the Elderly (Joint Indo-us-Dementia Project) in collaborationwith Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, New York & National Institute of Health, USA.

  • All staff members actively participate as a faculty members in various specialized branches of Pathology.

  • Every year 10 new postgraduate students are admitted for MD Pathology in this department.

  • Surgical pathology specimens increased from 700 to 6000.

  • Autopsies increased from 70 to 1000.

  • F.N.A.C. increased from 200 (in 1981) to 4000.

  • Exfoliative Cytology increased from 50 to 2000 which includes Gynaec PAP smears.
