Department of Nursing


Introduction:

Nursing is one of the important health needs of the patient and encompasses physical, emotional or psychological spiritual and social needs. The Department of Nursing is headed by the Matron, and has two main branches, the Nursing Service & Nursing Education. The total staff strength is over 750. The school of Nursing was housed in old nurse's hostel since 1954, undertakes the education of Nursing Students. It conducts a three years Diploma Course to which about 60 to 70 students are admitted annually.

    		•  In-service education to all Nursing staff.

    		•  Nursing Staff are sent for higher study/specialization on deputation.
       
  •  
    		•  The staff is sent for conferences, workshops and seminars.

    		•  'Best Nurse' Awards are given like Mayor's Award, Nair Award.
  •  
    		•  Nurses Welfare Association arranges sports, entertainment & competitions.
  •  
    		•  Family quarters are provided to 6% Nursing Staff.


    Appointment Policy:

    Sister Tutor : By selection-Municipal Medical Staff Selection Board.
    Other Nursing Staff : By virtue of Service Seniority.
    Student Nurses : Central Selection from Municipal Health Office.
