Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU):

Ward 19, 6th Floor, Hospital Bldg. The unit admits patients who are haemodynamically unstable and/or requiring ventilatory support. The MICU has been certified by ISO 9001:2000 since 2006.

Patients commonly admitted include:
1.  Infectious diseases with complications: Malaria, Leptospirosis, Tetanus, Septicaemia, Tuberculosis, Fulminant Hepatitis, Pneumonia etc.
2.  Poisonings like Organophosphorous poisoning, Ratol, Snake-bite, Corrosives etc.
3.  Multiorgan failures including renal failure requiring dialysis.
4.  Neurological emergencies like GB Syndrome, Myasthenia Gravis, strokes etc.

The MICU is well equipped with various life saving equipments. Mechanical ventilators (invasive and non invasive), non-invasive cardiac monitors, pulse oximeters, Infusion Pumps, Nebuliser, Ultrasonography machine, Bronchoscope, etc. More importantly, it has 24 hours availability of trained personnel viz. one lecturer, two resident doctors and & nurses for continuous intensive monitoring of seriously ill patients. Specialised procedures like hemodialysis, plasmapheresis, central venous line insertions are available round the clock.

Situated at Room no. 107, 1st floor, College Bldg., this laboratory has facilities to investigate patients attending the speciality clinics of the department of medicine and also special investigations required for research projects of the medicine department.

These include:
1.  Pulmonary function tests
2.  Rheumatological profile including Rheumatoid Factor, CRP, Cryoglobulins, synovial fluid examination.
3.  Hypertension profile including Lipid profile studies.
4.  Blood Investigations for patients attending Diabetes OPD and Nephrology OPD.
5.  Arterial blood gas, serum ammonia, serum magnesium.


Activities related to HIV & AIDS:

  •  
  • ART Clinic: Free ART, free CD4 test, counseling is available daily in 'E' Building 1st floor. One senior and one junior physician available for patient scrutiny and antiretroviral therapy. (Free ART is funded by NACO through MDACS).
  •  
  • Coordination with PSM Dept. regarding surveillance data of patients to be submitted to MDACS / NACO.
  •  
  • Role as resource persons in training medical and paramedical staff.
  •  
  • Post Exposure Prophylaxis to medical and paramedical staff.
