History:

Haematology services commenced in 1964 under Dept. of Medicine under Dr. A.J. Desai. A separate department came into existence on 18th April 1987 and Dr. S.K. Bichile was working as its Head from Sept. 1988 till May 2007. Dr. Vrinda Kulkarni took over and is currently In-Charge of Clinical Haematology. Dr. Abhay Bhave is the Honorary Haematologist.


Current Activities:

Outpatient Services:
Monday / Thursday: Room No. 403, 4th floor, College Building

Inpatient Services:
Wards 24 and 25; 24 hours a day.

Manjuben Mehta Thalassaemia Services:
For day care blood transfusion for thalassaemia major patients. Services are run on all working days.

Laboratory Services:
The department has a well equipped laboratory. It has purchased 3 V Microvision attachment to the microscope and a computer with printer through the General DDF. The dept. computer also has an internet connection. Variant II haemoglobin testing equipment - HPLC dedicated to abnormal Hb testing for Thalassemia & Sickle cell disease is in the process of purchase through BARC grant. Fully automated Haematology cell counter is in the process of purchase. Apart from the routine blood counts, indices, smears and bone marrow examination following tests are also available:
